Dark skies, powerful winds and a spectacular lightning strike — Monday afternoon brought another severe thunderstorm to Alice Springs.

Our Friendly Games team captured this incredible moment as lightning struck beneath dark storm clouds rolling across the Red Centre on Monday afternoon.

A wind gust of 96km/h was recorded at Alice Springs Airport, while heavy rainfall, fallen trees and localised flash flooding caused disruptions across town, with some homes and properties also affected.

With further unsettled weather possible today, everyone is encouraged to stay alert, follow official weather advice and take care when travelling around Alice Springs.
